I don't understand why people are praising it so much. I did not find anything in the film predictable. The core part of the method, and the part Twitter considers abuse, is the unfollowing of people in bulk. Its good but forgettable. Don't get me wrong, Deliver Us from Evil was okay, but I certainly wouldn't put it in the category of It Follows. If she’s like me, she’ll probably be stuttering and fidgeting while talking to you. I loved how deliberate everything was from the the "Its" (especially Jay's grandpa and dad), to the transmission of the curse, to the way that all the subtle things that have the film an unsettling vibe (the electronics being all over the place time period-wise, Jay's parents never really being around, and the ambiguity regarding the origin of the It/the ending). It Follows has an impressively sustained sense of dread, less explicit gore than measured tension. The creature only took two creepy forms and only stayed in those form for a few seconds. The actual performance didn't give me the frights The Exorcist or The Conjuring would give me because throughout the movie it was just seeing the thing and running. Unfortunately it had a great deal of the pausing, slowly moving towards sources of danger, idiotic tripping over stairs, drawn out conversations, moronic plans doomed to failure, that seems to pervade horror in general. The curse can be passed onto someone else by having sexual intercourse with the person, but if that individual is killed, the entity will revert back to stalking the previous target of the curse. Imo the characters were well written, the soundtrack was amazing, and the "monster" was a slow, stalking, horror, but wasn't some big guy with a weapon.
